A bidding system developed in the mid 1930s by Jack Marx and S J Simon. It takes its name from a venue in Acol Road in Hampstead where the two played and began to develop their theories. They were joined by Maurice Harrison-Gray and Iain Macleod and the then relatively unknown team enjoyed immediate tournament success, thereby popularising the system. It has remained the most widespread system used in Britain.
