A specialized manoeuvre during the play of the hand. Many coups have identifying names, some descriptive (such as scissors coup, crocodile coup, trump coup, coup en passant), others from the names of their authors (such as Deschapelles coup), or the places where they first surfaced (such as Bath coup and Vienna coup).
